Plain Basmati Rice
Overview
Prep: 1 min
Cook: 10 min
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
200g Basmati rice
Method:
This is the absorption method of cooking rice where all the water would have been evaporated and there would be no need to drain any surplus liquid.
The general rule of thumb when cooking white Basmati rice using the absorption method is the ratio of 2:1 which means you 2 cups of water for 1 cup of rice.
Put the rice in a sieve and rinse it under cold running water until the water runs clear.
This removes any excess starch. Put the rice in a saucepan which has a tight-fitting lid. Then pour in the water.
Cover the pan. Put the heat on low and leave the rice to simmer for at least 7 minutes before uncovering the pan to check.
Continue to cook for another 3-4 minutes and then check finally.
The rice is ready when the grains are tender, when all the water is absorbed, holes appear on the surface and some of the grains appear to be pointing up.
Serve piping hot.
