The fine dining brand Chakra has moved from west London’s Notting Hill to Holland Street. It’s just a stone’s throw away from the shopper’s paradise that is High Street Kensington. After you’ve shopped till you’ve dropped and want to get away from the hustle and bustle, you can stroll into Chakra on Holland Street and take a break with an indulgent meal in calming cool surroundings emphasised by the decor of the grey muted walls adorned with black and white images of India.
The starters give a seasonal twist on firm Indian favourites such as Celeriac Tikki, Parsnip Galouti Purple Sprouting Broccoli with an awesome Leek Chutney. Unusual Avocado Spheres; crispy on the outside with a soft and spicy middle. And the Spice Crusted Tiger Shrimp for the chilli lovers that has a kick to satiate the hottest of palates.
For the main course the English Baby Lamb with Fresh Spinach and Fenugreek is light enough to eat on a lunchtime sitting and the the Grilled Chicken, Tomato and Cream Masala with Coriander is a comforting yet pleasing dish working well with Garlic Naan. However, if you’d like something more leftfield, I’d go for the Blue Cheese Paratha which is a gorgeous combination of Indian soft dough and English Stilton. Yummy enough to just eat on its own.
The Tandoori Seabass is a complete fish that can be served by the staff who efficiently fillet the fish. Tandoori foods work well with Tandoori Rotis; an unleavened flatbread which is lighter than naan. The Roasted Puree Aubergine makes the most of baby brinjals to create a creamy barbecued mash and the Sweet Potatoes with Okra and Spring Onions is differently innovative.
The Planter’s Punch - a virgin cocktail pomegranate with a hint of coconut is refreshing enough to go with the spiced foods or you could opt for the Chakra Spice; tequila shaken with lychee mango or raspberry. The Chocolate Soil, Mint and Chocolate Stones is a new concept in dessert. It looks like a sandy pebbled beach in a bowl and the Gulab Jamun Caviar, Pistachio Toast Cardamom Creme is familiar Indian dessert territory if you need your GJ fix.
In addition to the restaurant, their menus to go and catering outfit to boot, the Chakra brand is mobile and bespoke to suit the needs of any occasion at any location be it here or abroad.
Under the helm of Arjun Verma, Chakra is a reassuring and reliable restaurant that cares about the food and the value of it’s clientele. It takes note of diners, their eclectic palates and personal preferences and continues to evolve with fresh and tasty ideas.
