bombay_taxi_smallApparently many people from Britain who go to live abroad are also taking food stuffs with them that they can’t live without. According to ‘Food from Britain’ an agency assisting companies from the UK to broaden their markets, says that exports have increased by almost 10 per cent in a year. The Brits who plan to move elsewhere in Europe, are more often than not armed with tins of Heinz baked beans, Oxo Cubes and bottles of HP sauce. Even bread for making good toast is widely missed.
Go further afield and Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Dubai and other Gulf states and Russia have a craving for the sweet stuff such as biscuits and chocolate. The big sellers are Cadbury’s Fingers, Tea Cakes, Snowballs, Wagon Wheels and Mr Kipling cakes.

marmiteEnglish cheeses are a hit in India with cheddar being the most popular imported cheese in the country.

And its not just foods, alcohol such as British whiskies are popular with Johnny Walker being the number one choice.

boatSo if you’re planning to spend some time away abroad, to maintain your true traditional British lifestyle make sure you pack your mint sauce, Branston Pickle, Marmite,  Tetley Tea bags, Fox’s biscuits and tinned soups.

My personal expat pantry would consist of Cheese and Onion crisps, Treacle, Galaxy’s Chocolate, Heinz Salad Cream, Colman’s English Mustard, Yorkshire Tea and Pear Drops.
